ASA 102 There is a brand new ASA certification for 102 which is a class designed to provide additional sailing opportunities and detailed sail trim concepts and practices. This class will be useful to sailors who have "gotten their feet wet" and are feeling comfortable with points of sail, tacking, gybing, MOB's and are interested in learning to fine tune their sails and increase speed. ASA 101 is a prerequisite for this class but it also could be useful for more experienced sailors interested in focusing on sail trim and advanced sailing techniques. ANSA teaches ASA 102 over 2 days. Each class is taught mostly on the water (OTW) and offers 2 days of sailing. The class will be taught on an O’day 30, Hunter 31, or similar boat (30′ to 34′ length), with a wheel helm, and is considered a step toward increasing sailing skills on larger vessels on the Chesapeake Bay, whether cruising or racing. Note that for students interested in continuing their sailing and possibly racing on smaller vessels 22' to 27' with a tiller helm, this may not be the class for them, and other schools may provide this class on a tiller helm boat. This class focuses on teaching while sailing, the student is expected to be proficient with all basic sailing skills, points of sail, and 101 knots before class begins.
