ANSA plans a smashing holiday event 19 December. We will begin with welcomes at 5pm. At 5:20, Mr. Rod Cofield, Executive Director of Historic London Town and Gardens will discuss Chesapeake Taverns. (See more about Mr. Cofield and his presentation below.)
To accompany Mr. Cofield's discussion of Chesapeake Taverns, we will host a mixology. The mix, making Grog, and favorite tavern drink. Recipe for Grog below.
ANSA will also award a $100 gift certificate for the winner of a numbers contest to be used at an historic tavern in Maryland.
In addition, there will be a fun quiz about all things sailing using Kahoot. Instructions for using Kahoot will follow in a separate email.

Rod Cofield is the Executive Director at Historic London Town and Gardens. Before working at London Town, he was at Historic St. Mary's City. His research at both places has focused on taverns and tavern life in the colonial Chesapeake. He received a graduate degree from St. John's College in Annapolis and did his undergraduate at St. Mary's College of Maryland. He is a life-long Marylander.
Topic:
In this 20-minute presentation, Rod Cofield will discuss colonial Chesapeake taverns. He will cover how they operated and some of the more interesting shenanigans that occurred when people drank together.
Grog Recipe:
- Ingredients
- .5 ounces Fresh Lime Juice
- 2 teaspoons Sugar
- 1.5 ounces Pussers Rum
- 1 ounce Water
- Directions
- Combine all the ingredients over ice, stir vigorously and toast rapidly and repeatedly.
